One Summit’s mission addresses a unique opportunity to face the trauma of cancer and support the whole family through resilience building. Our curriculum is based on the study of Posttraumatic Growth and the work of Dr. Richard Tedeschi. Posttraumatic growth is defined as positive psychological changes experienced due to the struggle with traumatic or highly challenging life circumstances. – Posttraumatic Growth; Theory, Research, and Applications. This growth can occur in one or more domains: a greater appreciation of life, increased personal strength, openness to new possibilities, improved relationships, and enhanced spiritual or existential awareness. To address all the domains supporting our curriculum, we focus on long-term engagement with our families and mentors. The critical theme of resilience through community building is reinforced through our extensive programs, The Anchor, storytelling, and community engagement events while continuing support for the entire community. We are not a “one-off” organization; we are there for however long a family is in need, regardless of outcomes.
One Summit is guided by and works in collaboration with the Boulder Crest Foundation, utilizing their research and resources to guide our application of PTG in our curriculum.
