“How did it get late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get late so soon?” This quote by Dr. Seuss perfectly sums up how we currently feel at One Summit. We can hardly believe 2021 is almost over. Looking back at photos is one of the best ways to remember all the memories we made.

2021 began with the world continuing to navigate the ongoing pandemic and with One Summit hosting the annual Nate WOD Challenge where we team up with CrossFit boxes and raise funds in honor of Nate, a Navy SEAL, Purple Heart recipient, and hero killed in action, and his brother Josh, who lost his battle to childhood cancer. The Challenge raised a total of over $20,000 this year, surpassing previous years! One Summit founder Adam La Reau was “…grateful to all those participating in this year’s event through these challenging times.”

This year we also launched Stories from the Summit, a community enrichment series designed to inspire, educate and entertain through the blending of personal stories, practical insights, and application of resilience in our daily lives. Offered free to all One Summit mentees and mentor family members, the series imparts the tools and strategies needed to remain resilient, accept change & adversity and learn to tell their own stories. Our first guest was Dr. Jonny Kim, a NASA Astronaut, US Navy SEAL, One Summit Mentor, and MD. Listening to him share his incredible journey was not only inspiring but fun too. Dan Cnossen, US Navy SEAL, Paralympic Athlete, and One Summit Mentor was our second guest. The life lessons Dan discussed that evening were each tied to a profoundly transformative experience he’s had in his own life.

Before we knew it, summer had arrived and the Falmouth Road Race with it. Thankful to be again chosen as part of the Numbers for Nonprofits program, Team One Summit participated both in-person at the race in Woods Hole and virtually by running from their hometowns. Their dedication helped raise over $19,000 for our resilient little warriors!

One Summit was also fortunate to be an official Partner of John Hancock in the Marathon Nonprofit Program for the fifth year in a row. Due to the pandemic, this year’s Boston Marathon was held in October instead of April. Our team of six did an outstanding job not only completing the grueling twenty-six-mile course but also raising over $100,000!!!

One of our most cherished memories from this past year was hosting our first in-person Climb for Courage in eighteen months on September 9th. Masked up and ready to safely conquer the wall, it was beyond magical being able to one again unite our like-minded warriors for a day of fun and resilience building.

Our in-person events are slowly, safely, and indeed making their way back! The One Summit Young Professionals Board ended the year by hosting the first-ever OS Civilian Challenge in Boston, New York, and San Diego. Supporters competed in a workout challenge, raising awareness and funds for our little warriors.

We truly treasure each moment shared with our One Summit family. Thank you for being part of it. Here’s to creating more unforgettable memories in 2022!
